We’ve appointed a new coach, have a fresh new committee and are looking forward to forthcoming ground renovation works returning our home ground to its pristine former self.
Highly talented all rounder Michael Cox, a former Barry McMahon medal winner, has joined the club as head coach for the coming season. Coxy brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong work ethic that should rub off on the playing group.
He also has a more than handy assistant in former head coach Shane Skene, who stepped down from the top job due to family and work commitments. Skeney’s contribution over four years was huge, with a first XI premiership in 2007/2008 and a Barry McMahon medal of his own in 2006/2007 standing out as his major highlights.
Together, these two will form a formidable brains trust and a highly dangerous combination on the field that should set the standard for the group.
Last season we celebrated a second XI premiership and had three sides featuring in the finals, indicating that the club has plenty of depth at its disposal.
If you’re proud of where you’re from, take your cricket seriously or just feel like a bit of hit and giggle, then one of our five teams can cater for you.
Our home ground is known as Jarvis Oval (see map), which is based at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus (enter off Pigdons Road and turn into Nicol Drive South). Like most sporting fields, the effects of drought have hit hard but proposed works to drought-proof our facilities should restore Jarvis back to its pristine best. It still remains as one of Geelong’s most scenic grounds and its turf wicket table has a reputation as being one of the best in Geelong.
Our 3rd XI and one-day teams play at Deakin’s Lakeside Oval and the Rugby Oval (see map). Both grounds have synthetic wickets and surfaces that provide maximum value for good shot making.
On the social front, Waurn Ponds has a hectic schedule and provides members, supporters and sponsors with terrific value in a vibrant atmosphere for partners, children and visitors. For more information, visit the Social Events section of this website for a complete and up to date list of activities.
Most importantly of all, the Waurn Ponds Cricket Club extends a warm welcome to anyone who is interested in contributing to any success that we may enjoy.
To those who have not experienced Waurn Ponds’ unique style, we encourage you to get on board!
GO EAGLES!

Waurn Ponds Cricket Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Cox as coach for the next two seasons. For those of you who don't know Coxy, he is a very handy left arm swing bowler and damaging middle order batsman. He brings a wealth of experience to the club and is a former league medal winner.
